Losec is for the short-term relief of reflux-like symptoms. These symptoms may include a burning feeling rising up from the stomach or chest (heartburn), or acid regurgitation. The pain can be made worse by eating large meals, bending over or lying flat, and by hot, alcoholic or acidic drinks such as orange juice.
Losec contains the active ingredient omeprazole. Omeprazole works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach through a highly targeted mechanism of action on the . It is a specific inhibitor of the acid pump in the parietal cell of the stomach.
Losec is rapid acting and provides control through reversible inhibition of gastric acid secretion with once daily dosing.
Losec are MUPS® tablets. Each tablet contains omeprazole 20.6mg (corresponding to omeprazole 20mg) as enteric coated tablets, protecting the medicine from the stomach acid.
Ingredients
Active ingredient per tablet:
Omeprazole magnesium 10.3mg giving 10mg of Omeprazole
Also contains:
Microcyrstalline cellulose, glyceryl monostearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid co-polymer, sugar spheres, paraffin, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate, polyvinylpyrrolidone crosslinked, sodium stearyl fumarate, talc, triethyl citrate, iron oxide, titanium dioxide.
NO gluten or lactose.
Directions
Adults: Take 1 tablet once daily before food.
For best results, take Losec Extra for 14 days.
Warning
Do not use for more than 14 days except on medical advice.
Do not take with other acid-suppressing medicines such as ranitidine or cimetidine.
Do not use if you are under 18 years old.
Seek medical advice if:
- you have unexplained weight loss
- swallowing is difficult or painful
- you are vomitting blood or your bowel motions are black or tar-like
- persistent regurgitation of food or persistent vomiting
- have or previously had a stomach or duodenal ulcer.
