Apply to dry hair.

Using a plastic or a glass container, combine equal amounts of the Herbatint dye with the Glycol Developer (included in the pack) to suit the length and volume of your hair. Replace the caps on the bottles containing unused products and retain for future use. Make sure the mixture has been thoroughly blended before application. Put on the gloves (included in pack) or use a brush to apply the mixture to your hair.

For previously uncoloured hair, apply colour mixture onto dry hair, making sure that the hair shaft from root to end is fully covered. Discard any unused mixture. Leave to process for 40 minutes.

For previously dyed or permed hair, apply a portion of the mixture onto the regrowth area. Leave to process for 30 minutes and then apply the remaining mixture onto the rest of the hair and wait an additional 10 minutes. Total processing time: 40 minutes.

Note: During processing, the colour of the product may vary from your target colour. This doesn’t have any effect on the final colour.Once processed, rinse out Herbatint mixture thoroughly with water until the rinse water is clear.

Wash hair using a natural pH shampoo such as Herbavita Normalising Shampoo.

Rinse and towel dry.

Apply a natural pH conditioner such as Royal Cream (sample included in pack). Leave for 5 minutes and rinse again.

Style your hair as usual.

Tips to help with colour selection

Click here to view the available colours and to find out which colours are best for your hair, and some extra colouring tips.

It is always wisest to select a colour close to your natural shade.

If hair has 50% or more grey, it is recommended to mix 8R with 8N (same number in the natural range), as the colours in the natural range between 1N and 8N cover grey 100%.

You can if you wish mix in a proportion of the Ash, Copper, Golden and Mahogany range. In order to achieve a total coverage of grey with the Ash, Golden, Copper and Mahogany colour series, it is suggested to mix the chosen colour (40ml) with a natural series colour of the same number (20ml) or if more convenient 30mls of each works well. Always use equal quantities of colour with Glycol.

If your hair has less than 50% grey and you wish to just cover the grey, select a shade 1-2 shades lighter than the desired outcome because when you add colour onto colour it will always go darker.

If hair has little or no grey, the copper, ash, golden and mahogany shades can be used without mixing in a 'natural' base colour.

The 'C' series (Ash colours) may be used as 'colour correctors' to contain or control traces of red or gold tones just as the 'M' & 'R' (Red colours) can be used to control traces of ash.

Hair that has been coloured dark is sometimes difficult to lighten. Dark colours have larger pigments absorbed into the hair shaft leaving no room for the hair to absorb any lighter pigments. Light hair can readily absorb dark colours.

You should be able to lighten brown or chestnut hair by 1 to 2 shades and lighten up to three shades on light chestnut to blonde hair using Herbatint.

Dry, permed or colour treated hair tends to be more porous than normal hair and will take colours more readily. The effect will be more intense colour. You need to bare this in mind when making colour selection. If you have had a perm, wait at least one week before colouring.

Phenylenediamines (PPD's) are chemically synthesised ingredients and are the colour pigments used to alter your hair's natural shade.  It has been suggested through research that PPD's are 'potentially' carcinogenic, i.e. cancer-causing agents.  However, there is no evidence linking the use of hair colourants containing PPDs with cancer in humans.

However a small percentage of people develop an allergy to permanent hair colour pigments. This can result in a serious reaction.  If you have been diagnosed as having an allergy to: p-phenylenediamine (PPD or Para Dyes) m-phenylenediamine p-aminophenol m-aminophenol

you should not use ANY Permanent Hair Colour.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the allergy can unfortunately arise at any point, irrespective of how long you have been colouring your hair. In light of this we strongly recommend that everyone follows the manufacturer's advice and do a skin test before EVERY application of permanent hair colour.
