FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- Water based acne gel.
- Moderate strength.
- An aid in the treatment of mild to moderate acne.
Benzac AC® 10% Gel contains the active ingredient Benzoyl Peroxide as an aid in the treatment of acne. Benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria on the skin that cause acne and unplugs blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads).
Benac AC 10% Gel is a highly targeted, effective gel treatment in your fight against acne, harnessing acrylates copolymer – tiny beads that absorb up to four times their own weight in fluid – to soak up excess oils, but leaving the water healthy skin needs untouched. Added glycerin leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.
Benzac AC® Gel is available in 3 strengths for topical application.
Always start treatment with either 2.5% or 5% gel and be sure to read the information leaflet inside the pack before you begin.
Benzac AC® Gel is a spot treatment and should only be applied to affected areas. Wash and dry your hands before applying the gel.
What makes Benzac AC® special?
Benzac AC® removes excess oil and hydrates your skin. It does this by using advanced Acrylates Copolymer (AC)/ glycerin complex.1
Sounds all sciency and stuff we know, but basically Acrylates Copolymers are tiny highly porous beads. These beads are so porous that they can absorb up to four times their own weight in fluid.
Acrylates Copolymer beads soak up certain liquids quickly and easily, but they are selective about what they can absorb. They rapidly absorb oils, however, they can’t absorb water, as water has a very high surface tension.
The other ingredient that works with AC, is glycerin. Glycerin lubricates the skin, making it smooth and soft. So whilst the Acrylates Copolymers (AC) absorb the excess oil that can carry bacteria, the glycerin helps hydrate the skin.1,3
So what does this mean for acne? When Acrylates Copolymer/glycerin complex is applied to the face, the beads come in contact with lipids, such as sebum, that have a high affinity for them. Sebum, because of its attraction to the beads, forces the glycerin out of the beads and onto the skin surface. The AC beads then absorb the sebum.

Things to avoid
Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, mouth, angles of the nose and sensitive areas of the neck.
If accidental contact should occur, rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry. Contact may cause irritation.
BENZAC AC should not be applied to damaged skin.
Do not use BENZAC AC with any other acne products that are used on the skin unless your doctor or pharmacist has told you that you can, as this may cause your skin to become red and sore.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or other sources of ultra-violet light.
Things you can do
If you forget to apply it use it again as directed, as soon as you remember.
Apply a non-greasy, broad spectrum, high SPF Factor sunscreen when sun protection is needed.
Things to be careful of
Keep use of cosmetics to a minimum and avoid oil based cosmetics which can clog the pores.
Be careful when using BENZAC AC gel because benzoyl peroxide can bleach or discolour clothing, towels or bed linen.
Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after you have used it.
Fair-skinned individuals are more likely to be susceptible to irritation when using BENZAC AC.
Do not use harsh skin cleansers, scrubs, medicated soaps or cosmetic products containing alcohol as these may have an additional drying or irritant effect
BENZAC AC contains propylene glycol which may cause skin irritation.
Possible side effects
If you should accidently use too much gel, you may find that your skin becomes irritated. Wash off as much as you can and when the irritation has gone down; start using it again as directed.
It is normal in the first weeks to experience a feeling of skin tension or a burning, stinging or itching sensation and a small amount of peeling or reddening of the skin. These effects are usually mild and can be relieved by the use of a moisturising cream or lotion. Alternatively, you may reduce the number of times you apply BENZAC AC to once a day or once every two days until your skin adjusts to the product.
If excessive swelling, irritation, redness or peeling occurs, discontinue use. If it persists, consult your doctor.
